Noopept – What it is

Wikipedia says that Noopept (Russian: НоопептGVS-111N-phenyl acetyl-L-prolyl glycine ethyl ester) is a peptide promoted and prescribed in Russia and neighboring countries as a nootropic. The registered brand name Noopept (Ноопепт) is trademarked by the manufacturer JSC LEKKO Pharmaceuticals. The compound is patented in both the US and Russia with the patent of Russian Federation number 2119496, U.S. Patent 5,439,930 issued 8/8/1995.[1] It is sold as a dietary supplement in the US and as a medication in other countries. Noopept is not a racetam (due to not having a 2-oxo-pyrrolidine skeleton),[2]but is generally grouped together in the same category because it shares similar mechanisms of action with the racetam family, mainly modulation of the acetylcholine system, as well as modulation of AMPA receptors.[3] When compared to traditional racetams, it has been found to be, according to studies, 1000 times more potent than the prototypical racetam drug, piracetam.[4] Noopept is a prodrug for the endogenous peptide cyclopropyl glycine,[5] which means that Noopept isn’t active until metabolized into cyclopropyl glycine.

Noopept – How it Works

Noopept needs more research to properly understand its methods of working. It is an improved and stronger version of piracetam. Noopept modulates the acetylcholine system as well as the AMPA receptors. This modulation essentially allows acetylcholine to accumulate at higher levels than that which it otherwise would. As acetylcholine is involved in the function of memory, this could potentially account for its nootropic effects. Noopept is based on a naturally occurring brain chemical called cyclopropyl glycine (CPG). Scientists say that Noopept is turned into cyclopropyl glycine in the brain. CPG has great anti-anxiety and anti-oxidant effects. The recommended Noopept dosage is around 10 – 30mg daily.

Noopept – What it “Does”

Noopept has mostly been studied in people who already have cognitive defects (people with Alzheimer’s Disease, stroke, epilepsy, and ADHD). It provides a neuroprotective effect that can protect your brain from stress. Mental energy is also improved. This can be compared to lifting a type of brain fog. Everything will become more clear and require less thought when supplementing with Noopept. Overall brain communication is also improved. The development of connections and growth of new synapses that connect the left and right hemispheres of the brain are greatly facilitated while taking Noopept. This allows for some interesting and unique integrations between functions and abilities normally associated with one particular side of the brain. Noopept is one of the most widely used and studied pharmaceuticals in the nootropic family.
